What is Lens Surgery?
Lens Surgery will change the way you see the world!
Growing more and more in demand, lens replacement surgery is used to cure both near and distant vision. Usually, lens surgery is the most effective way to eliminate your need for glasses or contact lenses. We as IOLTurkey have helped our clients achieve this freedom for over 10 years.
Refractive lens exchange, also known as lens replacement surgery or clear lens extraction, is a better option than PRK, LASIK or phakic IOL refractive surgery for people who have presbyopia (loss of near focusing ability that occurs with age) and high hyperopia (farsightedness).

What types of Lens Surgery are there?
Depending on your specific needs we will recommend you one of two different types of surgery. Lens replacement surgery, also known as refractive lens exchange (RLE), and Phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) surgery. At IOLTurkey, we offer Alcon premium lenses, so that we can provide the best remedy for each of our client’s personal optical needs.

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
In this procedure, the natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens. The new artificial intraocular lens eliminates the need of wearing glasses or the use of contact lenses, and also means that the patient will no longer suffer from cataracts in the future, as cataracts can not form on an artificial lens.

Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery uses the same procedure as for refractive lens surgery, except that the removed lens is not clear but cloudy due to cataracts. Patients have the same choice of monofocal, multifocal, or trifocal lenses (see lens types), so they also have no option for reading glasses and correcting their cataracts.

Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL)
This type of lens surgery involves implanting contact lenses, rather than removing and replacing the natural lens. This new phakic intraocular lens is placed over the natural lens and behind the iris (the exact positioning depends on the lens selected). Since the natural lens is not removed, this process can be reversed at a later date.

How does Lens Surgery Work
In lens replacement surgery, or refractive lens exchange, the lens of your eye will be replaced with a synthetic one.
